The Beauty (and Dangers) of Natural Light

Any homeowner will tell you, natural light is key to a warm, beautiful and happy home. Who doesn’t love to throw open the blinds and let some gorgeous Colorado sunlight into their living room or bedroom in the morning? Unfortunately, there are some costly side effects to allowing direct sunlight enter your home or office space regularly.

UV Radiation

Sunlight contains UV radiation, and though UVB rays can be filtered out by regular windows, UVA rays penetrate regular glass, and can cause damage to your furniture, floors, art and (most importantly) your loved ones. In cases of prolonged exposure, UV radiation fades the bold colors from hardwood floors. It also causes irreparable damage to fabrics, leaching the colors from the surface. Worst of all UV radiation has been linked to skin cancer, which affects 1 in 5 Americans.

Energy Usage

In addition to containing harmful radiation, direct sunlight can drive up energy usage. With our harsh summers and frigid winters, electricity bills in Colorado homes can be immense. Direct sunlight causes temperatures in homes to soar and drives up the need to run the air conditioner in summer, leaving homeowners with big bills to pay.

So what’s the Solution?

Fortunately, Denver Window Film offers a great solution to these common problems caused by direct sunlight. We offer three of 3M’s top Sun Control Window Film products to help that significantly reduce the advent of UV radiation damage and can dramatically lower electricity bills.
